This Riverwoods home addition project included a remodeled kitchen as well as an added living room and sunroom. The clients’ vintage country furniture inspired their antique-looking cabinetry and hardwood counter top. A distressed copper range hood adds to the charm, while brick elements from the former fireplace convert into a rustic backsplash. A cozy breakfast area looks onto the garden – a perfect spot for morning coffee. Warming both the remodeled kitchen and new living room is a two-sided fireplace. Fir floors unite the spaces, and the living room is filled with custom shelving and built-in cabinets to store the family’s books, media, and treasured photos.
With its exposed beams and fir flooring, an enclosed porch becomes a sunroom that invites light through two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows as well as dual skylights. The effect brings the outdoors in and evokes the feeling of a cabin in the woods.
